Rome guided tour: Coppedè, the district of dragons and fairies
Step into a World of Fantasy inhabited by fairies, knights, medieval damsels, frogs and spiders.
The neighborhood owes its name to Gino Coppedè, the architect who distinguished himself for his decorative exuberance and the liveliness of his extravagant creations, so much so that its originality earned him the baptism of a style, the style Coppedè, precisely.
The frogs fountain, the spider's building, the villa of the fairies, are all buildings that adorn the neighborhood, evoking dreams and nightmares related to the years that accompanied the outbreak of the First World War and the subsequent rise of Italian Fascism. All of this makes the district Coppedè the most original architectural experiment that took place in Rome in the first decades of the last century, and a hidden gem of the Italian art deco.
